Express Entry
Express Entry is Canada’s primary immigration system for selecting skilled workers for permanent residence. This invitation-based system manages applications under three programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Express Entry offers a quick and efficient pathway for skilled individuals to become permanent residents of Canada, based on factors such as work experience, educational background, language skills, and age.
At Zohil-Morton Law, we focus on providing legal assistance to corporations seeking to facilitate Canadian permanent residence for their employees through Express Entry. We ensure that employees meet all eligibility criteria, maximizing their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

Who Can Apply Through Express Entry?
Express Entry is designed for skilled workers who meet the eligibility requirements of one of its three programs:
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC), for skilled workers with Canadian work experience;
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), for skilled workers with eligible foreign or Canadian work experience; and,
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), for skilled workers who are qualified in a skilled trade.
Furthermore, a foreign worker may be eligible to apply for Express Entry with a provincial nomination through the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP), provided they are nominated by a province or territory and meet the eligibility requirements for one of the Express Entry programs. This nomination significantly increases an applicant’s chance of receiving an ITA for Canadian permanent residence.
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is designed for skilled workers who have gained Canadian work experience and wish to apply for permanent residence. To qualify, individuals must meet the following criteria:
- Possess relevant paid Canadian work experience, including having at least one year (1,560 hours) of directly relevant work experience within the past three years;
- Have experience in a training, education, experience and responsibilities (TEER) 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupation;
- Meet the minimum English and French language test scores;
- Not be inadmissible into Canada; and,
- Intend to live outside of Québec.
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is tailored to skilled workers who have foreign work experience and want to become Canadian permanent residents. This program allows individuals with professional skills, education, language skills, and work experience to contribute to Canada’s economy and settle as permanent residents. To be eligible, individuals must fulfill the following requirements:
- Possess relevant paid foreign work experience, including having at least one year (1,560 hours) of directly relevant work experience within the past three years;
- Have experience in a TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupation;
- Obtain a score of 67 points or higher in the selection factors, which assess language skills, education, skilled work experience, age, arranged employment in Canada, and adaptability;
- Meet the minimum English and French language test scores;
- Meet education requirements;
- Provide proof of funds to support themselves;
- Not be inadmissible into Canada; and,
- Intend to live outside of Québec.
Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) allows skilled workers with qualifications in a skilled trade to become Canadian permanent residents, provided they satisfy all criteria. This program offers an opportunity for individuals with experience and certification in specific trades to contribute to Canada’s economy and establish permanent residency. The following criteria must be met in order to be eligible:
- Possess relevant paid foreign work experience, including having at least two years (3,120 hours) of directly relevant work experience in a skilled trade within the past five years;
- Have experience in a specific National Occupational Classification (NOC) position:
- Hold a job offer or certificate of qualification;
- Meet the minimum English and French language test scores;
- Provide proof of funds to support settlement in Canada;
- Not be inadmissible into Canada; and,
