Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) 2025 - Sponsor your parents and grandparents to Canada

How to Sponsor Your Parents and Grandparents Through the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) 2025

The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residence in Canada. This family reunification initiative continues to be a vital part of Canadian immigration policy in 2025.

Starting July 28, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will begin sending invitations to potential sponsors who submitted an Interest to Sponsor form in 2020. Over approximately two weeks, IRCC will send out 17,860 invitations with the goal of accepting 10,000 complete applications for the 2025 intake.

What is the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP)?

The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) allows Canadian citizens or permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents to immigrate to Canada as permanent residents. If approved, your family members receive permanent resident status and can eventually apply for Canadian citizenship.

Who Can Sponsor Under the PGP?

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be invited to apply
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Live in Canada as a citizen or permanent resident
  • Meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) for three consecutive years
  • Sign a sponsorship undertaking agreement of 20 years (or 10 years in Quebec)

Application Process

  1. Submit an Interest to Sponsor Form: This was required in 2020 for the current intake round. No new forms are being accepted for 2025.
  2. Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA): IRCC will send 17,860 invitations beginning July 28, 2025.
  3. Submit a Complete Sponsorship Application: Within the deadline, include all required documents and forms.

What if I Don’t Receive an Invitation?

If you’re not selected through the PGP, you may still be able to bring your parents or grandparents to Canada through the Super Visa, which allows long-term stays of up to 5 years at a time. Learn more on our Super Visa page.
