Start-Up Visas
Canada’s Start-Up Visa Program offers permanent residency in Canada (excluding Québec) to approved foreign entrepreneurs with innovative business ideas and connects them with a designated Canadian organization to obtain financial support. This program is designed to attract talented foreign entrepreneurs who can contribute to Canada’s economy, facilitate job creation, and build globally competitive businesses.
At Zohil-Morton Law, we assist entrepreneurs in preparing strong Start-Up Visa applications, securing business support, and ensuring compliance with immigration requirements to help navigate the immigration process smoothly.

Who Can Apply for a Start-Up Visa?
Foreign entrepreneurs must meet eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence through the Start-Up Visa Program. To qualify, applicants must:
- Have a qualifying business that is innovative, capable of creating jobs for Canadians, and have the potential to compete on a global scale;
- Obtain a letter of support from a designated organization, which may be from a venture capital fund, angel investor group, or business incubator, that is prepared to support the business idea;
- Meet language requirements in English or French, specifically in speaking, reading, listening, and writing; and,
- Demonstrate that they have sufficient personal funds to support themselves and their dependents while residing in Canada.
Designated Organizations and Support Requirements
Applicants must obtain support from an approved designated organization that will invest in a start-up in Canada. To do so, applicants will need to:
- Contact a designated organization to understand how to obtain their support;
- Demonstrate that there is a viable, innovative business idea that is worth supporting; and,
- Obtain a letter of support from the designated organization.
Once business support is secured, applicants can apply for permanent residence.
